Digi Pack creation:

When i approached the making of the digi pack my aim was to incorporate the design that was used in the actual albumn the song is from, which is "Whatever you say I am thats what i'm not", the cover and back and also inlay images were all black and white, which i thought made it look that much mroe grittier, also the simplicity of some of the images i also liked, for instance the front cover, also i then looekd at some of the single covers that were from that albumn also, from these i got the idea oif the white strips that run along the cover of my digi pack were the writing is liek what is shown below. I did'nt want to make a whole new product, i just wanted to make one that would fit in with the others, but also something that i oculd call my own, and out my own little tweaks on things.. Therefore after shooting some of the scenes to go along with the music video i took out a camera and also took some pictures, i used several angles and also i tried some different techniques to make the image different. Most of the work that was hardest was infact altering the images to be how i wanted them to be.

 

At first i played with the images using different effects on Photoshop, one i had which was infact a contender for being my front cover was one that i had put a red glow on, which did incorporate the title of the track, ( red lights), but i decided against this, my favorite was the simplicity that was itself used upon the original albumn cover which is to turn the image black and white, this gave the image a grittier and also perhaps a nostalgic or bleak look to it due to its lack of colour. I did have some initial problems with making some of the images i had taken fit into the scale of the cover. After gettting my images i then had to decide upon the font i wished to use, i used Festus, from dafont.com which is a gritty lookign font adn i played around with it, making some letters lowers case and some capital, i think it looks much more interesting that way. i then used the inspiration of the strip form the albumn cover to make it stand out, balck on white. On the images on the back i used the same font for the names of the tracks, i took time in choosing the tracks that i put on it, i looked at what the tracks were about and how they would effect the digipack and i cam up with the idea for it to almost be a narrative itself, all the tracks are about goung out or causing mischief the first two, "Put your dukes up john" and "Dancing shoes" are about gettting ready for a night out and also for dancing in a club etc, and i thought this was a clever way for them to fit togeather, also many of the tracks on the back have not been released properly are on the internet as free downloads so therefore i thought it was an interesting was to put them all togeather.

The three inside images i used i didnt really do much to, the first two i simply put some text on them as i thought the images themselves had enough attitude and could hold thier own without any special effects on them also the lighting on them was really good, the third i foudn a really interesting efffect on Photoshop called NEED TO FIND OUT which made the images look liek it was drawn or was a negative of a photo adn i really liked it, after this i then found the lyrics in the song that did actually say red lights indicates doors are secure and put it on there in a bold whit font, i thought this was a very good interesting image. The CD image itself i left much liek the other tow inside images just plain, but it was an exciting and energetic image, which was why i chose it, and also liek the other two it had attitude and a sense of laddishness about it whcih was after all what i wanted to capture both with the digi pack and video.

Diary Post 1 - Problems.

When i said that i wanted to do my filming to a dew friends most seemed really up for it, this did not last as after several attempts to contact one of my friends who was supposed to be portraying the main character of the video and also being let down a total number of 4 times i eventually went round to his house to ask if he really wanted to do this or not, asking for a simple yes or no. Hearing this my "friend" proceeded to swear at me telling me that i was in the wrong and who was i to tell him what to do, after this and a few blows being traded, i decided not to carry on filming or talking to him, therefore i was stuck without a main character, not only this but after hearing about this commotion my friends then did not want to do the video also. So due to these unforeseen events i decided to film, poorly, some footage on my own. i am still currently looking for people to appear in my video, hopefully i will have more luck this time...

Shot List.

Due to the style and also vibe i want to give the video i am using a point of view shot (P.O.V) , to give the piece an intimate feel almost liek you are really there with these guys on a night out. An example of a P.O.V shot is given below:

Another shot i would like to achieve would be a snorri cam shot, mainly due to the fact again that i am hoping to achieve a certain style, almost a documentary feel to it but also a styalised feel, and  again the snorricam shot adding to it being more personal to the viewer, here is an example of a a snorricam shot:


Also as well as these being my two main shots and the shot i am looking to use the most, i am also looking to incorporate some mid shots and also some real close ups like of the drink that one of the boys is drinking...

2.08 - 2.13 - Camera swings back round to look at the taxi as he runs and jumps in with his friends already inside telling him to hurry up - P.O.V shot.

2.13 - 2.19 -  Cuts to the camera inside the taxi looking out of the window at the men who are chasing them, the men get to the door and try the handle but it fails - P.O.V shot.

2.19 - 2.21 - Camera swings round to the main character who is sitting there smiling nervously and slyly and the video ends with him giving the camera a cheeky wink and the shot fade to black - P.O.V shot.

Production Schedule.

Date//Time:
The date i am going to start filming is from 19th of October till we come back, the time of the day i am looking to film at is mostly at night time due to the narrative of the video i want to do.

Locations:
I am looking to film outside of my house for the first shot with the closing of the door and also the taxi coming over. For the bar scenes i am looking to film it at two local pubs where i have asked permission, this depends on the night we do it as they are busy on different nights. I have organised to get a taxi as my friends dad is a taxi driver so this will be easy to accomplish.

Actors:
At first i had no problem with getting actors i had several friends who were all up for it, but then two dropped out due to work issues. So therefroe i am still currently looking for some people to act in it, although i do have most of the parts taken care of.

I have now finnalyy found my main character actotr and he is top :D

Storyboard Making.

Drawing:
To help us to be able to plan out our music videos shot by shot, we all drew up story boards, using post stick notes and fine liners we drew out every scene shot by shot using the timings of the songs. I liked this part a lot as it allowed me to give my ideas some thought and also it allowed me to plan out my sequence very carefully but it also made it daunting as i showed me how many shot and different angles i needed to use to fill the time.

Filming:
I drew them out as stick figures to make it simpler and as a way of saving time, as long as i knew what they meant, thats what was important. after this i then filmed each post stick note for about 10 seconds, this was not a very lengthy process at all and i achieved this reasonably quickly. Then we had to take stills of the post stick notes this again was not a very lengthy process and was done quickly.

Editing it together:
This was the most time consuming part of the process, not only due to the fact that it all had to be in synch with the song but also due to the fact that the computers kept crashing, which i found really irritating, as it caused some time to be lost that was not needed to be lost. We uploaded the film onto our computers and used Adobe Premier Pro to edit it together along with the song. Despite the difficulties i liked this part of the process the most as i could start to see my video coming to life and began to get more and more ideas as i went on. then finally after doing it all we had to export or videos and upload them onto our blogs.

Final Proposal for "Red lights Indicates doors are secure" by Arctic Monkeys.

The song i have chosen to do is "Red lights indicate doors are secure" by Arctic Monkeys the link for the song is at the bottom of the page, the reason i have chosen a new song is due to the fact that "Emily' Heart" by Jamie T was too slow paced and bot hmyself adn my teacher were concerned with filling the time with different and varied interesting shots. The main idea i have had for the video is to basically play out the lyrics in the song, but by using a narrative style to be the driving force throughout  the piece . I am looking to use a Point Of View shot throughout nearly all the video, much like the "Smack my bitch up" video by The Prodigy see also the beginging of the video Like a G6, by Far East Movement. I am thinking of having the lyrics being sung into the camera almost like he is talking to him about incidents going on throughout the night, like a real night-out.

The idea i have is mostly based around a lads night out and is mainly based around the lad culture of drinking a lot and causing trouble, look at the video below from the "Football factory" at 0.18 seconds. As the lyrics are being said i am also going to have some of them being played out in a flashback, like the fight scene at the taxi rank at around 1:30 in the song, i would love to use an effect to make it look like CCTV footage to give the video a gritty feeling, look again at the Football factory video but at 2:15 this time. also with the effects of alcohol taking a heavy toll on the POV i would love to use an effect to distort some of the shots, much like the Marilyn Manson video, also i have taken a look at some shots in Lock Stock And Two smoking Barrels for inspiration, both of these shots use a great effects and capture the mood and vibe brilliantly, one uses a snorri cam shot which i would love to use also, as it gives the impression of drunkness, see also Mean Streets snorri cam shot and also Dust Devil video by Madness. I am hopig for a very stylised look to the video, taking inspiration from directors like, Martin Scorsese, Quentin Taratino( his corpse and trunk POV shots used throughout his films which is like you are the corpse or the trunk and also his black and white shots used in kill bill, and what has become known as the God's Eye POV shot, which is like a birds eye view, i would very much like to get this for my CCTV camera footage shot), Oliver Stone ( POV shot used in Natural Born Killers), Guy Ritchie and Nick Love. These can be found at the bottom of the page. I want the style of the video to be both gritty but also vibrant and also humorous in places with a hint of aggression throughout.

The locations i am hoping to get are a bar area, like a pub or something of the sort, and also a taxi cab, as a lot of the song is sung while in one or waiting for one, i would also like to haev a lot of neon lights present to reinforce the vibrant nature and look of the video, as a lot of British dramas, E.G. This is england, make places look very bleak, i do not want to do this as i think the gritty british style has been used to death, look at the vibrantness of the trailer below of The Firm, the neon lights and colourful clothes make it stand out I think they can be accomplished especially the cab as i have a friend who's dad is a cab driver. i would also like to film outside on a highstreet and an estate where the video starts. The costumes i am hoping for are smart jeans and shirts, almost what a bloke wears when he is going for a night out, either this is or a more indie look with Fred Perry polos etc.

Proposal For Emily's Heart By Jamie T.

The song i have picked was Emily's Heart by Jamie T the link for this can be found at the bottom of the page, the main story i have gone with for this song, is that a girl has who is going out with Jamie T has seen him kiss another girl ut really this means much more, hence the lyric " dont ever mess with Emily's heart", and basically he gets beaten up by her brother or family and his mates, when the chorus comes up everytime it will be a shot of Jamie T "bruised and bloody" on the floor, and he is singing it, this can been seen in the video "Chasing Pavements" by Adele, which is on a link below at the bottom of the page.

The lyrics fit in with the story i have manufactured from the song lyrics.I have asked one of my friends to play the part of Jamie T in this video, and i am currently asking around to see if there are any girls who are interested in playing the part ofthe girl in it, also me and some of my friends from rugby are going to play the girls brother's friends.
The costumes i am going to use is for the main character, (Jamie T) is goin to be dressed in a pair of jeans and  polo top, bloody and dirty and covered in mud and grime. the girl at the start of the video will wear a nice neautral coloured dress to resemble a placid soul, but after she sees him kiss another girl, she begins to wear darker colours, to resemble her mood. The girls brother and his mates, will be wearing hooded jackets and big coats to give them a threatening look, i want them to look like thugs, so i am taking some inspiration from the clothes that hooligans wear in the film "Green Street", which a link can be found at the bottom of the page...

The location of the piece i am yet to find, i am thinking of shooting it around my estate as it gives the video the desired gritty feel. In the lyrics there are moments in it where he imitates him or her talking e.g "She said, get your coat, come on". this will be mimed by the actual performer. Most of the song especailly the chorus will be mimed by Jamie T, who like in the song is bruised and bloody on the floor, but is singing this. I really wanted to use long cuts and a very bleak colour scheme, the parts when it says she says or he says will be done in black and white indicating a flashback this can been seen in the film "American History X" i think it adds to the horrific nature and also reinforces the bleakness of the piece. Another example of the black and white technique is in the video fro the Oasis song "The importance of being idle" and also in Quentin Tarantino's film Kill Bill, it is used.

I want there to be lots of close ups showing the emotion of the characters, almost like Sergio Leone's films, where he has a really close close up of a character, then a wide shot to get in the scenery behind, i would like to do this as i think it adds a lot of depth into the piece and also shows that they are small fish in a big pond, and are perhaps insignificant. Also i want to use some close ups of objects that are important in the story, like the brother's face when he sees Jamie T hugging his sister. Also items like the hooded coats and close ups of thier fists when they are standing there, a really wanted to use a silouete like shot of the brother and his mates, to give a dark and threatening feeling to it. In the scene where Jamie T is beaten up i want there be be a split screen of the beating and another shot of the girls face watching from a distance at the beating taking place.

The general pace of the song, is relativly slow, so most of the editing, will be long takes,but this is to enforce the sadness of the song and also the emotion that will be evident on the characters faces much like the Video for the song "Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve, i like the fact that this song i just one long take but still manages to put across so much emotion. The style of the piece i think will be very important to me, the feel of the song and the piece need to be both in harmony, so therefore, there will be no gratioutious violence, most of it will be covered up by a mass of the bodies taht are baeting him, mainly i am just focusing on the after effects of everything, not only of the violence, but that that is due to the fact that he kissed another girl etc.
